The Rt. Rev. Dr. Eric Vawter Menees is the Fifth Bishop of San Joaquin, succeeding the Rt. Rev. John- David Schofield in 2011.
A little history…
Grace Anglican: The origins of Grace Anglican are found within its mother church, St. Francis Episcopal Church, founded in Turlock (1939) as a mission and incorporated as a parish in the late 1940’s. St. Francis grew with the growth of the community reaching 120 families with 300 communicants by 2006. However, the following years were marked by division over biblical interpretation and moral behavior, leading to a split and the loss of roughly half its members in 2007. Then came the separation of the Diocese of San Joaquin from the Episcopal Church – which was supported by the existing membership of St. Francis – resulting in the church being sued by the national Episcopal Church. In 2013, faced with the lack of funds with which to defend itself, the vestry voted to walk away from its building, creating the entity that is now Grace Anglican (in its fifth year) and worshiping in rented space within the First Christian church, Turlock, California, with access to all facilities.

The congregation briefly held services at a small store before moving to a larger building on Oakdale Road in Modesto. After almost 6 years at the Oakdale Road building, the congregation moved to a rented building on McHenry Avenue in Modesto, due in part to a lower rent.
