Bishop Eric MeneesBishop of the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin
|
Bishop Eric Menees was born in Compton, California on November 21, 1961 and is a tenth generation Los Angelino. Ironically, that same day was the founding convention of the Diocese of San Joaquin. Bishop Menees grew up in Southern California and attended California State University, Long Beach. As a college student Bishop Menees was formed in the catholic faith at All Saints, Long Beach under the guidance of then Fr. Bill Thompson who would later become Bishop Bill Thompson. At that time Bishop Menees professed as a Third Order Franciscan. His formation as a Franciscan has shaped his entire life and ministry. Bishop Menees graduated from the General Theological Seminary with an M.Div and from Seabury Western Theological Seminary with a D.Min. Bishop Menees is married to Florence Guadalupe and has two grown children, Milagro and Sebastian.
Following his ordination Bishop Menees served Spanish language congregations in East Los Angeles and Santa Ana in the Diocese of Los Angeles. From there he was called to the Diocese of San Diego to be the chaplain at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California and later as vicar and then rector of Grace Church, San Marcos. In 2006 following the election of Katharine Jefferts Schori, Bishop Menees left the Episcopal Church as a matter of conscience with 19.5 years credited to the pension fund and founded the Anglican Church of the Resurrection. In 2011 by God’s grace Bishop Menees was elected the fifth bishop of San Joaquin succeeding Bishop John David Schofield. Bishop Menees serves as bishop for Caminemos Juntos, the ACNA Spanish Language ministry support network, and the ACNA representative to the Anglican Province of South America and the Roman Catholic Church. |
